About the programme

What is the work experience programme?

Our work experience programme gives you the opportunity to spend time in a real, live NHS GP surgery in East London — working alongside healthcare professionals in an authentic clinical environment.

This is not a simulated environment. You will be working in a functioning GP practice, observing and supporting clinical activity as directed by the team. The type of work you carry out — whether phlebotomy-related, administrative, or other clinical support — will depend on the needs of the practice at the time of your placement.

The duration of your placement is agreed on an individual basis. We do not commit to a fixed number of weeks in advance, as every student and every placement is different.

What's included

What you'll gain from your placement

Your placement is designed to give you the kind of real-world clinical exposure that employers look for — and that you simply can't get from a classroom.

Real NHS clinical environment
You'll work in a functioning NHS GP surgery in East London — not a mock-up or training centre. The pressure, pace and professionalism are real.
Clinical team experience
Work alongside GPs, nurses and healthcare assistants in a live practice. Understanding how a clinical team operates is invaluable for any NHS job application.
EMIS system exposure
Gain hands-on exposure to EMIS — the clinical software used in the majority of UK GP surgeries. One of the few training providers to offer this.
Rare in the industry
Professional trainer reference
At the end of your placement, your trainer will provide a professional written reference to support your NHS job applications — a significant advantage over candidates without one.
CV support
We'll help you present your placement experience on your CV in a way that speaks directly to what NHS phlebotomy employers are looking for.
Competency sign-off
Your trainer will formally assess and sign off your competency during the Enhanced Package — giving you documented evidence of your clinical skills for job applications.
